  • System Accreditation (which enables the institution to self accredit its study programmes).

Can higher education institutions choose a suitable EQAR-registered agency?

Only if certain conditions are met:

  • Eligibility requirements for foreign agencies: German higher education institutions (HEIs) can choose from amongst QA agencies that are accredited by the German Accreditation Council. Most of nationally accredited QA agencies are registered in EQAR.
  • Conditions for the agencies’ work (e.g. criteria to be used): own criteria.
  • Recognition of reviews carried out by foreign agencies: automatic.

    • Nationally recognised (by the Accreditation Council) QA agencies can ratify decisions from foreign EQAR-registered agencies.

Can higher education institutions use the European Approach for the Quality Assurance of Joint Programmes?

  • Yes. all German higher education institutions can opt for programme accreditation of joint degrees by an EQAR-registered agency using the European Approach. See here for further information.
  • Nationally recognised QA agencies can also ratify individual accreditation decisions by other EQAR-registered agencies on joint programmes between a German and foreign institution.
